US Air Force Pay Chart 2012

The United States Air Force represents the air power projection of the Untied States military. While technically established on September 18th, 1947 – after World War 2 – America has maintained an aerial fighting force since 1914 with the establishment of the United States Signal Corps Aviation Section. The Aviation Section lasted until 1918 to which the United States Army Air Service came into effect on President Woodrow Wilson’s order during World War 1. By the time of World War 2, American air power existed under the flag of the United States Army Air Forces between 1941 and 1947. The US Air Force of today was born from these actions and went on to see operations in the Korean War, Vietnam War and every major US military engagement since – including both Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq.

Today, the US Air Force is staffed by nearly 330,000 active personnel with a further 68,000 in reserve and an additional 95,000 air national guardsmen. The USAF inventory consists of over 5,500 warplanes of which nearly half are multi-role, fixed wing fighter platforms while the rest consist of strategic bombers, specialist platforms, transports and attack/transport helicopters. The USAF also has access to over 450 intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) at its disposal and utilizes over thirty satellites in orbit. All this works to make the USAF one of the largest and technologically-advanced military fighting forces in the world.
